This is PayPal's customer support number that is set up primarily for users calling from outside the United States or for businesses dealing with payment disputes. However, non-business users (and U.S. residents) can call this number and still be connected to PayPal’s customer support team. PayPal customer service representatives are available on this line every day from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
When I called, the automated system immediately recognized my phone number and associated it with my existing PayPal account. I was asked to verify my account by entering the last four digits of my Social Security number. While this may feel like a jarring request to some, I felt secure entering these digits, given that it wasn’t asking for my entire SSN.
This line does not initially provide an automated menu. Instead, it operates via voice prompts that ask you to describe the reason for your call. However, by waiting on the line you can access an automated menu that gives the options of receiving help with a specific transaction, account features and settings, or PayPal products and services.
I was calling to remove a credit card that had been previously associated with my PayPal account but is no longer active. I navigated through the automated system, selecting the appropriate options. The system eventually informed me that I’d need to speak with a representative to accomplish my goal.
I waited on hold for just under 3 minutes before being connected with a representative. He immediately asked again for the last four digits of my SSN to verify my identity. With that accomplished, he asked a few questions about the card I wanted to remove from my account and then completed that task relatively quickly. From the time I first dialed the number, it took me just under 10 minutes to accomplish my objective.
The PayPal rep I spoke with was friendly and efficient. Although he didn’t specifically ask me for a callback number, based on the system’s recognition of my account and phone number, it’s likely a callback feature exists for calls that get disconnected.
Based on my experience, I would feel comfortable calling this PayPal number again for customer support. The fact that the automation software immediately recognized my phone number and associated it with my account seemed like a sign that PayPal’s processes are set up efficiently. Although I didn’t love the voice prompt aspect of the system, once I was able to access the automated menu and make selections, my experience was relatively smooth.
If you are seeking assistance outside of the customer service center’s hours of operation, PayPal’s website and app provide additional customer support options. In fact, the rep I spoke with indicated that my task could have been accomplished just as easily via PayPal’s online or app interfaces.
