I was scheduled to fly out of JFK at *:** am on December **, ****. We arrived at the airport * hours early and the line to drop baggage off (I had already checked in and paid for my bag) was horrendously long. I waited almost an hour with no hope of ever getting to the counter, but my flight wasn't boarding for another hour. The check in counter was severely understaffed...in fact only * agents were working and many other customers were having issues, needing to get boarding passes (again, I already had mine), needing to pay for baggage (I already paid...I just wanted to hand it to them), etc. They were getting yelled at by many, although it wasn't their fault...they were doing their job. My daughter was in line with me, but she was on another flight that left after mine. Because she had her service dog with her, we were allowed to leave the very long line and get into a much shorter line that was still being serviced by the * agents working. When we finally got to the counter, I was informed that I had missed the baggage deadline by TWO minutes and that I would have to rebook my flight. The agent was sweet and gave me a phone number to call as there was nothing she could do. I finally spoke to a phone agent, who was not pleasant, and he rebooked my flight for * pm that day. First he told me he couldn't get me n a flight until the next day. This situation has never happened to me and I was thankful for a flight back to SFO, but now had to wait at the airport for * hours AND my ride had to reschedule work in order to pick me up. April, the counter agent, was amazing during this whole process and apologized profusely. However, I was still stuck in a city *,*** miles away with no baggage (it got checked in for the next flight) and * hours to kill. I thought maybe I would get access to the Delta lounge...but sadly, no. That might have helped. I love Delta and really prefer to stay with Delta, but after that AND the flight cancellation I experienced * days prior (weather related, but still stressful), I'm not sure I want to book again. **Fixed? Upgrade my next flight to *st Class? Access to the Delta Lounge? Free ticket? Free companion ticket?
